FUTURE FOREVER VICTORIOUS

In 1886 the club was founded by 15 workers at the Royal Arsenal Armaments Factory in Woolwich,
London. The team initially called itself Dial Square after the workshops at the center of the factory.
Royal Arsenal soon replaced Dial Square before a more permanent name change to Woolwich
Arsenal came into effect in 1893. Woolwich was dropped following the move to Highbury in
1913/14. The Gunners eventually moved to Highbury Stadium in North London in 1913. They have
continued to paint the town red ever since. The years at Highbury saw the pioneering tactics on
Herbert Chapman, the birth of the iconic red shirts with white sleeves in 1933, a 1950 FA Cup
win (one of many in the club’s history), the team’s first double in 1970/71, and the 1989 miracle
win with a goal by Michael Thomas in the second half’s stoppage time. Under the watchful eye
of Arsène Wenger, the winning tradition continues. The Invincibles team in 2003/04 – featuring
Thierry Henry and Freddie Ljungberg – went 49 matches unbeaten in the Premier League to set a
new record. Arsenal moved to Emirates 2006, kicking off a new legacy.
